Build a welcome email sequence in a real tool
Email is still marketing’s highest-ROI channel — and every marketing intern gets asked to build a welcome sequence. Draft a 4-email sequence with AI, edit it until it sounds human, build it in a real email tool, and send it to real test recipients.

The work brief
- 01Pick a product/service and define who signs up and why.
- 02Write 4 emails with AI + your editing: welcome, value/story, social proof, offer/CTA. Subject lines matter most.
- 03Build the sequence in a free email tool (Brevo, Mailchimp, MailerLite).
- 04Send it to at least 3 real test recipients (friends count) and screenshot the tool’s sent/campaign view.
What you’ll produce
Submission standard
Submit the product + audience, all 4 emails with subject lines, a screenshot of the sequence built in the tool, and what you learned. Also include your AI workflow — tools, best prompts, and what you changed from the AI’s output. Add a screenshot of email 1 as actually received in an inbox (with date), and make sure the tool screenshot shows your own logged-in account and the sent status.
Product + who signs up and why
Short answerRequiredAll 4 emails: subject line + body each, in order
CTA means call to action. Give each email one clear next step, then explain how the sequence supports a measurable result.
Written responseRequiredScreenshot of the sequence/campaign inside the email tool
Must show YOUR logged-in account (name/email visible), the campaign/sequence, and the sent status/date.
Image uploadRequiredWhat was harder than expected? What did the tool force you to change?
Written responseRequired
You’ll complete these inside your private workspace.
What you must submit as proof
This brief requires evidence an AI can’t fabricate.
Screenshot of email 1 as received in YOUR OWN inbox (your address, sender, and date visible)
Send or CC the sequence to yourself and screenshot what arrives — never a subscriber’s inbox. The received email must match a submitted email; blur any other recipient’s address.
Image uploadRequired
Submissions without this evidence cannot be submitted.
Protect other people in your proof. Blur faces, names, phone numbers and email addresses before you upload, and refer to anyone you worked with by role or number ("Listener 1", "the stall owner"). Your proof is only ever used to check your work — it is never published, never appears on your certificate, and is never shown in your public portfolio.
How your work is evaluated
The passing benchmark is 70/100.
Sequence strategy
29%The 4 emails build on each other with a clear job per email.
Built in a real tool
29%The screenshot shows the sequence actually configured/sent.
Copy craft
14%Subject lines hook; bodies are edited beyond raw AI output.
Really built and sent
29%The tool screenshot shows the student’s own account and sent status, and the email received in the student’s own inbox matches a submitted one. If the tool screenshot isn’t the student’s account, or the inbox email doesn’t match, this criterion is a fail regardless of copy quality.
How we grade your AI usage
Using AI is the point — it’s the skill this certificate proves. You’ll answer three short questions about how you used it: what you asked, what was wrong with its first answer, and what you changed. Specific, honest answers score high. “I pasted the brief and submitted the answer” scores near zero.
