Redesign a real product’s packaging — and shelf-test it
Packaging is design with a sales quota: it has 2 seconds on a crowded shelf to get picked up. Photograph a real local product with weak packaging — a home-made pickle, a local snack brand, a stationery item — redesign its label, and run the 2-second shelf test.
Steps
- 01Find a real product with weak packaging (local brands and home businesses are perfect) and photograph it as sold.
- 02Diagnose it: what must a buyer know instantly (what is it, whose is it, why this one), and what does the current pack bury?
- 03Redesign the label/pack face with AI + Canva: keep every legally-needed element (name, weight, price, contact), fix the hierarchy.
- 04Shelf-test: place your redesign among 5 competitor images in one collage, show it to 3 people for 2 seconds each — can they find and describe it? Iterate once.
Tools: A real local product, Canva + an AI image tool, 3 real people
