Micro-internship brief ≈9h across 2 days — photograph and redesign, then shelf-test and iterateno-code

Redesign a real product’s packaging — and shelf-test it

Packaging is design with a sales quota: it has 2 seconds on a crowded shelf. Photograph a real local product with weak packaging, redesign its label with AI + your hierarchy fixes, and run the 2-second shelf test with real people.

The work brief

  1. 01Find a real product with weak packaging (local brands and home businesses are perfect) and photograph it as sold.
  2. 02Diagnose it: what must a buyer know instantly (what is it, whose is it, why this one), and what does the current pack bury?
  3. 03Redesign the label/pack face with AI + Canva: keep every legally-needed element (name, weight, price, contact), fix the hierarchy.
  4. 04Shelf-test: place your redesign among 5 competitor images in one collage, show it to 3 people for 2 seconds each — can they find and describe it? Iterate once.

What you’ll produce

4 deliverables

Submission standard

Submit the photo of the real product, your redesign, the shelf-test collage, and the test results with your iteration, plus your AI workflow. Also submit the public Canva view-link to your redesign and a screenshot of your own editor showing your account name and today's date.

  • Photo of the real product’s current packaging

    Image uploadRequired
  • Your redesigned label/pack face

    Image uploadRequired
  • The shelf-test collage: your design among 5 competitors

    Image uploadRequired
  • The 2-second tests: could they find it, what they recalled, and what you changed after

Record all 3 testers' 2-second reactions in their own words and what you changed after — the answers must reconcile with your shelf collage and your redesign iteration. Invented or flat results fail.

    Written responseRequired

You’ll complete these inside your private workspace.

What you must submit as proof

This brief requires evidence an AI can’t fabricate.

  • Public Canva view-link to your redesigned label/pack file

Canva 'Share > Anyone with the link can view'. Must open to YOUR editable redesign — a dead or private link fails.

    Public linkRequired
  • Screenshot of your OWN Canva editor building the label — account name and today's date visible

Show the live canvas with your username and system date, not just the exported pack face.

    Image uploadRequired

Submissions without this evidence cannot be submitted.

Protect other people in your proof. Blur faces, names, phone numbers and email addresses before you upload, and refer to anyone you worked with by role or number ("Listener 1", "the stall owner"). Your proof is only ever used to check your work — it is never published, never appears on your certificate, and is never shown in your public portfolio.

How your work is evaluated

The passing benchmark is 70/100.

Real subject

14%

A real product was photographed and its actual weaknesses diagnosed.

Shelf-first redesign

29%

The redesign nails instant legibility while keeping required elements.

Shelf test run

29%

The 2-second test really ran and drove an iteration.

First-party provenance

29%

Auto-fail if the redesign has no live editable file, if the editor screenshot lacks account/date, if the before-photo looks stock/AI, or if the shelf-test results do not reconcile with the collage and iteration.

How we grade your AI usage

30% of your score

Using AI is the point — it’s the skill this certificate proves. You’ll answer three short questions about how you used it: what you asked, what was wrong with its first answer, and what you changed. Specific, honest answers score high. “I pasted the brief and submitted the answer” scores near zero.
