Design an infographic that survives fact-checking

Infographics are where design meets data — and where most of them quietly lie. Take real data you can link, design an infographic with AI styling but hand-measured proportions, and annotate exactly how each visual element maps to the true numbers.

The work brief

  1. 01Pick real data that matters to you (from your own data micro-internships, or a public source you can link).
  2. 02Extract the 3-5 numbers with the strongest story. Verify them against the source.
  3. 03Design the infographic with AI + Canva: AI generates the style and illustration, but you size the bars/circles — proportional to the real values; AI can’t be trusted with proportions, so measure, don’t eyeball.
  4. 04Annotate a copy: each visual element → the exact number and source it represents.

What you’ll produce

4 deliverables

Submission standard

Submit the source link, the infographic, and the annotated version proving every element is proportional and true, plus your AI workflow. Also submit the public Canva view-link to your infographic and a screenshot of your own editor showing your account name and today's date.

  • Link to the data source

    Public linkRequired
  • The finished infographic

    Image uploadRequired
  • The annotated copy: each element mapped to its exact number

Each annotated element must show the exact number AND match the value fetched from your source URL — bar/circle sizes must be proportional to those numbers. Annotations that do not reconcile with the linked source fail.

    Image uploadRequired
  • Design-integrity notes: where you were tempted to exaggerate for beauty, and how you kept it honest

    Written responseRequired

You’ll complete these inside your private workspace.

What you must submit as proof

This brief requires evidence an AI can’t fabricate.

  • Public Canva view-link to your infographic file

Canva 'Share > Anyone with the link can view'. Must open to YOUR editable infographic — a dead or private link fails.

    Public linkRequired
  • Screenshot of your OWN Canva editor building the infographic — account name and today's date visible

Show the live canvas with your username and system date, not just the exported chart.

    Image uploadRequired

Submissions without this evidence cannot be submitted.

Protect other people in your proof. Blur faces, names, phone numbers and email addresses before you upload, and refer to anyone you worked with by role or number ("Listener 1", "the stall owner"). Your proof is only ever used to check your work — it is never published, never appears on your certificate, and is never shown in your public portfolio.

How your work is evaluated

The passing benchmark is 70/100.

Visual accuracy

29%

Sizes and proportions match the real numbers.

Design quality

29%

It’s genuinely engaging — hierarchy, colour, flow.

Integrity awareness

14%

The notes show real grappling with the beauty-vs-truth tension.

Sourced and first-party

29%

Auto-fail if the data source link is dead, if the infographic has no live editable file, if the editor screenshot lacks account/date, or if the annotated numbers do not reconcile with the fetched source.

How we grade your AI usage

30% of your score

Using AI is the point — it’s the skill this certificate proves. You’ll answer three short questions about how you used it: what you asked, what was wrong with its first answer, and what you changed. Specific, honest answers score high. “I pasted the brief and submitted the answer” scores near zero.
