Make your own design work for everyone
Design that only works for perfect eyes isn’t finished. Audit a design YOU made with contrast checkers and colour-blindness simulators, let AI propose accessible fixes, then verify every suggestion with the tools — without losing the design’s personality.

The work brief
- 01Pick your own earlier design (poster, styleguide, template, screen) — the more colourful, the better the lesson.
- 02Audit it: run text/background pairs through WebAIM contrast checker; view it through a colour-blindness simulator (Coblis); shrink it to thumbnail size and squint.
- 03Screenshot every failure the tools reveal.
- 04Retrofit with AI proposals you verify: ask AI for accessible colour and cue alternatives that keep the design recognisably yours, apply the ones you trust, and re-run the tools to prove it passes — AI suggests, the checker decides.
What you’ll produce
Submission standard
Submit the original with its failing tool screenshots, the retrofit with its passing screenshots, and your notes, plus your AI workflow. Also submit the public Canva view-link to your retrofit and a screenshot of your own editor showing your account name and today's date.
Original design + the tool screenshots showing failures (one image)
Image uploadRequiredRetrofitted design + the tool screenshots showing passes (one image)
The passing WebAIM/Coblis screenshots must show YOUR exact hex codes and ratios, and those must match the retrofitted design shown alongside — and it must be recognisably the same design as your before image. Mismatched or generic screenshots fail.
Image uploadRequiredWhat failed, what you changed, and how you kept the design’s personality
Written responseRequired
You’ll complete these inside your private workspace.
What you must submit as proof
This brief requires evidence an AI can’t fabricate.
Public Canva view-link to your retrofitted design
Canva 'Share > Anyone with the link can view'. Must open to YOUR editable retrofit — a dead or private link fails.
Public linkRequiredScreenshot of your OWN Canva editor applying the fixes — account name and today's date visible
Show the live canvas with your username and system date, not just the exported design.
Image uploadRequired
Submissions without this evidence cannot be submitted.
Protect other people in your proof. Blur faces, names, phone numbers and email addresses before you upload, and refer to anyone you worked with by role or number ("Listener 1", "the stall owner"). Your proof is only ever used to check your work — it is never published, never appears on your certificate, and is never shown in your public portfolio.
How your work is evaluated
The passing benchmark is 70/100.
Real tool audit
29%Failures were found with actual tools, evidenced by screenshots.
Verified fixes
29%The retrofit demonstrably passes the same tools.
Personality kept
14%The fixed version still looks like the same design.
Verified and first-party
29%Auto-fail if the retrofit has no live editable file, if the tool screenshots do not show the student's actual hex/ratios, or if the after design is not recognisably the same design as the before.
How we grade your AI usage
Using AI is the point — it’s the skill this certificate proves. You’ll answer three short questions about how you used it: what you asked, what was wrong with its first answer, and what you changed. Specific, honest answers score high. “I pasted the brief and submitted the answer” scores near zero.
