Make your own design work for everyone

Design that only works for perfect eyes isn’t finished. Take a design YOU made earlier, audit it with real accessibility tools — contrast checker, colour-blindness simulator, squint test — and retrofit it without losing its personality.

Steps

  1. 01Pick your own earlier design (poster, styleguide, template, screen) — the more colourful, the better the lesson.
  2. 02Audit it: run text/background pairs through WebAIM contrast checker; view it through a colour-blindness simulator (Coblis); shrink it to thumbnail size and squint.
  3. 03Screenshot every failure the tools reveal.
  4. 04Retrofit: fix contrast, add non-colour cues, adjust sizes — while keeping the design recognisably yours. Re-run the tools to prove it passes.
